5/13/2007 10:00 AM NorthportNorthport86The West Islip Freshman Baseball team beat Northport 8-6 on Saturday. Danny Lyons pitched four nearly perfect innings in relief for the win. Lyons struck out seven hitters, walked only one, and allowed only one earned run. With the game tied at three, Chris Hasenzahl's suicide squeeze bunt single drove in Charlie Filipazzo. The bunt started a five run rally that put West Islip up 8-3. Matt DiDonna, Chris Heine, and Danny Lyons all added key RBIs in the game. Frank Gagliardi and Brandon LaRose added two hits each. West Islip is 11-3.

Justin Miale's bomb with the bases loaded drove in Jake Melito, Frank Gagliardi, and Mike Bellucci to give West Islip an early 3-0 lead. Miale later added an RBI single to put West Islip up 5-0. Frank Gagliardi went 3-3 on the day with one RBI while scoring two runs. West Islip is 10-3.
5/9/2007 4:00 PM Sachem NorthSachem North12The Freshman Baseball team played another extra inning game on Wednesday, losing 2-1 to Sachem North in eight innings. Charlie Filippazzo pitched a gem. Filippazzo pitched seven innings allowing only one unearned run. He struck out five batters and walked only one. Filippazzo is pitching great. West Islip battled back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game in the seventh inning. Jake Melito led off the seventh inning with a single. Charlie Filipazzo then bunted Melito into scoring position. With Matt Kirby running for Melito, Justin Miale hit a scorching line drive double down the line to tie the game. Sachem North scored in the bottom of the eighth on a walkoff base on balls against relief pitcher, Justin Miale.
5/5/2007 10:00 AM Smithtown WestWI51Charlie Filippazzo continues to make his bid for the team's Cy Young Award by pitching a complete game on Saturday beating Smithtown West 5-1. Filippazzo struck out 8 batters while only walking one. After allowing the only run in the first innning, Filippazzo shut Smithtown down the final six innings. Frank Gagliardi had a day at the plate hitting two home runs, scoring three runs and adding three RBIs to his superior stats. Nick Licardi kept up his hot hitting with an RBI single and Justin "Time" Miale added two hits. The West Islip Freshman Team is 9-2 on the year.
5/3/2007 4:00 PM CommackCommack12The West Islip Freshman Baseball team lost a tough game vs. Commack by the score of 2-1. Justin Miale pitched a brilliant game throwing a three hitter through seven innings until Commack scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, one of which was unearned. Frank Gagliardi led off the game with a triple for West Islip. Justin Miale's SAC fly drove in Frank to give West Islip the early 1-0 lead. Above all, the team played well and fought to the last pitch. A few costly errors and walks handed Commack the win.

Danny Lyons notched his first victory by pitching seven strong innings, striking out five batters, and allowing only one walk. Matt Sharkey came in the game to pitch a hitless seventh inning for the save. Sharkey was also a star at the plate going 2 for with two runs scored. Sharkey led off the 8th with a stand up double. Frank Gagliardi then drove in the game winner sending West Islip to its ninth win. Mike Bellucci added two hits and two RBIs. Matt Kirby went two for two with two key hits in West Islip's sixth inning rally that tied the game. West Islip is 8-1 in their league, 9-2 overall.
5/1/2007 4:00 PM St. John'sWI 1413Down 9-1 in the fourth inning, the West Islip Freshman Baseball team battled back to defeat St. John's 14-13 in 8 innings. This game showed the strength and teamwork of the squad. Charlie Filipazzo came in the sixth inning of the game to pitch three scoreless innings for the victory. Charlie also scored the winning run on Brandon LaRose's bouncer to second with the bases loaded in the 8th inning. LaRose's two run double in the sixth inning drove in Mike Bellucci and Frank Gagliardi to tie the game at 13. Frank Gagliardi went 4-6 while scoring three runs. Mike Bellucci also added four hits, three RBIs, four runs, and four stolen bases. Nick Licardi added four RBIs for West Islip. West Islip has an 8-2 overall record on the year.
4/28/2007 10:00 AM ConnetquotWI 12The West Islip Freshman Baseball team dropped a close game to undefeated Connetquot, 2-1. Connetquot took an early 1-0 lead with a pop fly that landed over the "little league" fence on the JV field. West Islip tied the game at one with Nick Licardi's base hit driving in Justin Miale. Connetquot got across the winning run with a double in the seventh inning. Justin Miale pitched 4 2/3 strong innings before Charlie Filippazzo was forced to come into the game in the fifth. Filipazzo pitched a great game in relief before surrendering the winning hit. West Islip played great in the loss with flawless defense and battling up until the last out leaving a runner on third. West Islip is 7-1 in league, 7-2 overall.
4/23/2007 4:00 PM Shoreham Wading RiverWI 131The West Islip Freshman Baseball team beat Shoreham Wading River 13-1 yesterday. Zach Romanello notched his second victory on the season pitching five solid innings, allowing only two hits and one run. West Islip scored eight times in the first inning with RBIs from Zach Romanello, Danny Lyons, Nick Licardi, Matt DiDonna, Frank Gagliardi, Mike Bellucci, and Brandon LaRose. Justin Miale hit his third homerun of the season in the third inning putting West Islip up 10-1. Mike Bellucci and Frank Gagliardi both added two hits each.
4/21/2007 10:00 AM LongwoodWI 65The West Islip Freshman Baseball team is now 6-0 in league play after beating the once undefeated Longwood 6-5. Justin Miale recorded his third victory on the season, pitching seven strong innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out eight hitters. Longwood was only able to score one run in the final four innings of the game. West Islip opened with an early 3-0 lead following three consecutive hits by Mike Bellucci, Brandon LaRose, and Justin Miale. Danny Lyons' base hit in the 5th innning driving in Brandon and Justin proved to be the game winning hit. Mike Bellucci went 2 for 4 with three stolen bases.
4/19/2007 4:00 PM Walt WhitmanWI 122The West Islip Freshman Baseball team moved to 5-0 in their league by dominating Walt Whitman by the score of 12 to 2. Charlie Filipazzo was brilliant on the mound again pitching a complete game, allowing only one earned run while striking out nine batters. West Islip totaled 15 hits on the afternoon. Three of West Islip's hits came from Justin Miale. One of which was a homerun. Brandon LaRose went two for three with a three run homerun that put West Islip up 4-0 in the third inning. Frank Gagliardi went two for four with 4 RBIs. He also added his first homerun of the season. Shawn DuBois added a double for West Islip. West Islip is off to a hot start.

Justin Miale had another strong outing, striking out ten hitters, allowing only two hits and one earned run. Frank Gagliardi went 2-2 with three runs and a RBI. Justin Miale's double in the first inning drove in Frank Gagliardi to give West Islip an early lead. Danny Lyon's two out, two run hit put West Islip up for good. Matt Sharkey pitched the final two innings holding Brentwood back from mounting a comeback. He struck out three batters.
4/11/2007 4:00 PM Smithtown EastWI 93The West Islip Freshman Baseball team maintained its undefeated league record by beating Smithtown East 9-3. Zach Romanello was brilliant in his first high school outing pitching a complete game, striking out five batters, while allowing only one earned run. West Islip scored six times in the second inning with the big blast coming from Justin Miale's monster three run home run, driving in Matt Sharkey and Matt DiDonna. Mike Bellucci continued his hot hitting adding two hits, two rbis, and he also stole two bases. Brandon LaRose added two hits for West Islip and Zach Romanello posted two key rbis in the win.
4/7/2007 4:00 PM LindenhurstLindenhurst78In an non-league game, West Islip lost a 8-7 heartbreaker in nine innings to a good Lindenhurst team. West Islip battled back down 5-3 in the 6th inning. The game showed West Islip's will to win where they battled throughout the entire game. Chris Hasenzahl's great suicide squeeze drove in Justin Miale to give West Islip a 6-5 lead in the 7th. Frank Gagliardi went 3-5. Mike Bellucci added two hits and stole two bases. Justin Miale pitched well and played excellent defense in the loss. An overall team effort showed West Islip's future promise. West Islip is 2-0 league, 2-1 overall.
3/28/2007 4:00 PM Sachem EastSachem East52West Islip went to 2-0 after beating a strong Sachem East team 5-2. Justin Miale pitched a brilliant two hit, eleven strikeout complete game. West Islip's centerfielder, Mike Bellucci, went 3 for 3, scored two runs, and stole two bases. Matt Sharkey's two out double drove in two runners and gave West Islip the lead they would never surrender. West Islip is 2-0.
3/26/2007 4:00 PM BabylonBabylon110Charlie Filipazzo got his first high school win pitching a two hit, complete game shutout, striking out eight Babylon hitters. Danny Lyons got things going for West Islip with his 2 rbi base hit in the first driving in Brandon LaRose and Justin Miale. Frank Gagliardi went 2-4 in the game scoring three runs while driving in three others. Zach Romanello added two hits and 4 rbis. Mike Romaine hit two doubles for West Islip and scored two runs. West Islip is 1-0.
